Medallion made out of generative nodesbased on the subculture Pichaçoão (Brazilian Street Typography). The models are inspired by the artists’ perspective of self and their work in relation to societal standards.
Pichação is the name given to Brazilian graffiti. It consists of tagging done in a distinctive, cryptic style, mainly on walls and vacant buildings. Pichadores carry their work like their pride, calling it aggression, an attack on society. A form of poverty art and means to speak out and be heard. The shapes of these medallions are complex and structural in reference to the canvas of their works. When worn it is clearly striking and empowering much like a crown.
In contrast society views them as delinquents, many protest against them claiming they are children of the devil. Embracing this idea of “evil” , demonic shapes were invented in an attempt to create subtle discomfort.
